>>> Mexico city's downtown weekend life ... what
a mess of diversity!!
1pm .-
I come out of the "Hidalgo" subway station in the
core of mexico city's downtown ,I struggle my way through
the usual food stands and its unique folklore of people yelling
"pambazos", "tamales" "churros"
, "pasele joven" etc etc. Finally I can get out
of that street but noise music and million of people embraces
me now . Rivers of heads coming and going, everyone with their
own subject, from thousands of them outside San Juditas tadeo
church celebrating its day with chants, flowers and images
, to the punks and darks playing magical cards and exchanging
comics in the park , and behind them , the Cubans are celebrating
Marti with salsa music in a volume level where your can't
help but dance .
I let
the crowds behind and I walk towards my destination "china
town" , to find, it is completely deserted , I wonder
how come it be , being the very Chinese year's day , I walk
trough the main street and suddenly in a door of a narrow
ally I see what seem the tail of a dragon , so I head there
and an Asian girl sees my camera and tripod and asks me if
I'm from the press ... I hesitate for a moment but hell I
say "yes I'm", so she takes me inside this big empty
40's house, where dozens of kids and teens are running and
yelling and dancing and getting their make up done. The whole
energy to crash the thousands of people that will witness
their show from the next 9 hours is locked inside that house
and it is just about to explode , I stay inside the house
watching the roles and the motivational speeches of their
teachers . a clock in the wall reaches 3:10 pm and the first
group of girls come out the building I follow them and I find
the street is intensely crowded with familiar faces darks
, punks , cubans etc etc etc ...., What followed it ,is better
explained by my camera .
